Is the Viral Haus Labs Foundation Overhyped?

If TikTok has taught us anything, it’s that viral products have us begging for new, innovative products that erase every crumb of texture and blur us better than a filter. But do these hyper-shared products actually work?

I’ve tested the Haus Labs Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation so you don’t have to commit to the $45 purchase without knowing the rewards.

First, I chose my shade. The 51-color shade range is wonderfully attentive, with consideration put into warm, neutral, and cool undertones. I have a golden color and pale olive undertone, and I usually struggle with finding a true match. If I’m honest, 85% of foundation shades I try are a bust. They easily turn too pink, too yellow, and too chalky-neutral on my skin.

When I saw 190 Light Cool, I actually felt a spark of hope. Light with golden olive undertones? Yes, please.

I bought it right off of the website. No swatches in-store for my antisocial self. It was a risk with the price point, coming from a girl with a supply of $12 drugstore foundations.

But I do like a good risk.

Packaging

Then, the day came. The product arrived.

The bottle is nicely designed, and right off the bat, I suspected I was going to like the packaging. The semi-transparent bottle gives a luxe, frosty look I wouldn’t mind displaying on my shelf. Chrome lid finishes aren’t my favorite, since they tend to chip and look like motel faucets. (If you know, you know).

But, I overlooked it for the sake of the pump.

Thank heavens for the pump.

After a full month of using the Haus Labs foundation, I haven’t had one drop or smear on my bottle. No leaks. No mis-drip. I don’t have to mop anything up if this bottle tilts over. Zero waste.

For me, the packaging is a win.

Does the formula perform?

In my opinion, yes. With a few caveats.

Here’s the official product description from Haus Labs:

“A medium buildable coverage, high-performance, weightless, clean foundation infused with our proprietary fermented arnica that helps reduce redness, helps even skin tone and protects from environmental stress. Suitable for all skin types including sensitive and acne-prone.”
— Haus Labs

The foundation sets with a gorgeous satin-like finish. If you’re looking for a soft glow and hydrating feel, you’ll love this formula. It won’t cake up like long-wear matte finishes and avoids looking too shiny. So far, it melds beautifully with cream and powder products without separating or pilling. I can also say that it hasn’t irritated my sensitive, acne-prone skin at all.

Described as ‘light with golden olive undertones,’ this color blended into my skin tone. The formula smooths my texture and acne and evens out my color. Plus, a little goes a long way. I don’t use more than one pump, and I always have extra to blend into my neck and chest. Again, I’m loving the zero-waste.

Complaints

No foundation looks exactly like skin and filters you completely. There’s always texture, and as thirty draws near, I’m building a nice collection of fine lines around my deep-set eyes.

After all night wearing this foundation, I do have minimal creases beneath my eyes. Emphasis on minimal. I’d love a foundation that won’t crease at all, especially since I’m only getting older. But this isn’t a perfect world, and I didn’t have any issues with product separation. Far better than my drugstore foundations, to be perfectly honest.

However, as an oily girl, a setting is a must with this foundation. If I don’t finish up with a translucent powder, I’ll be glowing like a greased peach within the hour. Since the setting powder does offset this problem, though, it isn’t enough to make me stop using it.

Conclusion

Overall, I really enjoy this foundation, and have been reaching for it over my cheaper alternatives. I can definitely see myself repurchasing.
